For over a century and a half, a historic building has stood tall, an emblem of Stillwater's heritage. This revered structure housed The United Shirt and Collar Company, a pivotal establishment nestled north of the Saratoga Knitting Mills. With a workforce primarily comprising around 50 local residents, the company was instrumental in the community's fabric.
However, the dawn of the 1930s brought about the Great Depression, casting a shadow over the company's fortunes. In an unfortunate turn of events, The United Shirt and Collar Company closed its doors permanently, rendering 50 individuals suddenly unemployed.
Over the years, the evolution of this historic building in Stillwater unfolded as one of its owners undertook renovations, adding a second floor while preserving its original architectural charm. Serving as a familiar landmark for locals, this building has enjoyed a storied history as a center for commercial activities.
In its most recent chapter, a reputable furniture company graced its halls, gaining acclaim for their exquisite craftsmanship, further cementing the building's place in the community.
As time past by, a wave of new developments swept through Saratoga County, reshaping the landscape and ambiance. Stillwater didn't stand still, new residences emerged, and the town's library underwent a complete overhaul, altering the local atmosphere.
Now, the spotlight turns to this building, poised for a similar transformation in sync with the evolving vibe of the town.
Given its significant role in Stillwater's history, our priority is to maintain the current structure of this building, preserving its historical essence as a living part of the town's narrative.
Our objective is to repurpose this historical structure, aiming to retain its authenticity while revitalizing its significance within Stillwater.
The project encompasses two main components: Commercial and Residential.
The commercial part will be located on the ground floor.
Plans include enhancing the exterior with new doors, windows, lighting, and creating an inviting landscape with seating, offering picturesque views of the Hudson River across the entire property.
The second floor will undergo renovation for residential purposes, featuring 1-2 bedroom apartments and studios, catering to local residents.
Along with the revamped Stillwater library, the 'Lofts on the Hudson' project aims to become a cornerstone of the village, contributing to its economic and social resurgence.
